Melissa Horton
My journey into nonprofit work was born from the deepest love a mother can hold—and the deepest loss a mother can survive.
As a single parent, my world revolved around my son, MarQuis. When he was diagnosed with autism, I became his strongest advocate and his constant voice. I learned to see the world through his eyes, fought for his needs, and celebrated every victory, no matter how small. He taught me patience, resilience, and the beauty of progress made at your own pace.
Then our lives changed again in a way I never imagined. MarQuis was diagnosed with a brain tumor and cancer. Hearing those words shattered every piece of my heart, but it also awakened a strength I didn’t know I possessed. Through every treatment, hospital stay, and moment of uncertainty, I held his hand and fought beside him. Loving him through that journey remains the greatest honor of my life.
When my son passed away, grief could have silenced me. But instead, it guided me toward purpose. I knew I couldn’t let his story end in pain. I wanted his light—his spirit, his strength, his love—to continue touching lives.
That is why I created We’re All Connected Foundation.

This foundation is my promise to my son and my commitment to families experiencing the challenges we once faced—families navigating autism in an overwhelming system with far too little support.
I built We’re All Connected Foundation so no parent has to fight alone.
So no child’s needs go unheard.
So no family feels isolated in their struggle.
Every program, every resource, every act of service is inspired by MarQuis and the love he brought into my life. His legacy lives through this foundation and through the families we are privileged to support.
My story is one of love, resilience, and transformation. Through We’re All Connected Foundation, I am turning my son’s memory into meaningful change—helping others find hope, strength, and community on their own journeys.
